Here are some of the best Magento extensions that I’ve come across.
- Magento Live Chat – This free module will provide LiveChat support in Magento.
- Fontis WYSIWYG Editor – This extension gives you the option to enable a JavaScript WYSIWYG editor to specified admin pages. Currently available editors are: TinyMCE and FCKeditor.
- Lazzymonks Twitter – Displays Twitter updates in the menu and allows updates from within the admin panel.
- Events Calendar – With this extension, you can display an events calendar on your website. Events are stored in the database. You can also display the upcoming list of events quickly by calling a block in your template.
- Blog – Full featured blog extension for Magento.
- Raffle – This module gives you basic functionality to run your own raffles.
- Customer Groups Configurable Catalog – This extension enables you to hide categories and products from customers depending on the customer group.
- Exploded Menu – Replaces the standard single column drop down with a multi-column dropdown featuring 2nd and 3rd level menu items.
- Velite Magento Superstage – Functionality, intuitive interaction and product presentation with really high detailed images are the main features.
- Magento EasyLightbox – This small extension will help to install Lightbox widget. Installation and configuration will take approximately 5 minutes. No files are replaced and no codding experience needed to install!
- Magento Exploded Menu – Replaces the standard Magento menu with a multi-column drop down menu system.
we need more posts like this! magento’s search feature is horrible! i cant find anything in that clutter of extensions.
i should also mention the best magento extensions are the ones you have to pay for. and they are worth every penny because most come with support straight from the programmers of the extension themselves.
i dont mind forking over 70 bux for an extension and help out the little guys!
Thanks for the mention! Check the Fontis WYSIWYG extension page on our site for more info and updates, this is kept more up-to-date than the Connect listing.
Richard, thanks for putting this together, it was extremely helpful! I agree with Daniel that Magento needs to start looking at building their own search and stop relying on Googles search everything method.
Thanks for the list, its really good.
Check out Royal Mail Shipping Options UK I found that extension very useful.
Good collection of Magento extensions thank you for sharing with us. keep writing.
Yeah, we feel your search pain too. We’re actually working on a new search module for Magento that should be released here in the next few months. It will allow for matching based upon titles, is 100X more relevant to the phrase being used, and more. Stay tuned
I like the look of the exploded menu add on in the default theme, we use Modern so would have to see what it turns out like.
The wysiwyg editor is really handy for making the product features nice, it gets a bit text saturated with no nice way to break it up. The ability to quickly format the text is very good.
I might also try out the live chat function as well, although i’d want to know if its worth it within our niche, it looks nbad if we cant talk to the customer straight away, and that may be the case sometimes.
Thanks for the list!
Thank you for this list. We are using most of them.
I like the extensions at this site:
http://www.temgra.com
For configurable products when you want the images to change with different options, this is a great extension:

I have found Free CMS – a static block management extension for magento. It is very useful and amazing.
You can install it via magento-connect here:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/extension/1710/free-cms-block-frontend-features
Or download it directly from Mage-World.com:

Hope this is useful for you.
Has anybody found a working search extension yet. I got scammed by a company offering a sphinx search module that appeared to pick up even with spelling mistakes. Everything they had seemed fine except they either went bust or made it just to rip people off. There were reports of a few sites working until their servers were switched off and all the licenses failed.
If anybody can come up with something i think they could probably retire on the profits just from single module.
Thanks Richard for this useful Magento Extensions List. Please Check some of the useful extensions such as for Advanced Search and Video Streaming; at http://ecommercesoftwaresolutionsonline.com/services-pricing/magento-extensions.html
Thanks for the list, I included it in my meta research for the best Magento extensions: http://blog.guidojansen.nl/2010/06/25/meta-research-the-ultimate-magento-extensions-list/
I like your blog and such a useful information sharing. I appreciate your blog and thanks for that.
Hi, great article. I used some of these to build miniwardrobe,.com. is there any possibility that I can get the free exploded menu extension that you have reviewed here. Coz now it is missing from magento repository. please email me if you can.
much appreciated.
Please can anyone tell me where can i find free exploded menu for magento it is missing in the link mentioned above. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I have yet to still find an extension that enhances the search time of magento’s search engine. Most are directed at enhancing the relevance of searches but not with the speed of returned results.
I am currently using Better Store Search and that is good for relevance (for the most part) but not speed and magento search is slow!
If anyone knows of one please let me know!
What about this extension: collection of jquery lightboxes in magento:

It’s suberb @ FOC
Hey Richard,
Thanks for the great list. Any chance of doing a more up-to-date one?
I recommend Autolink. Great for SEO and such. http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/JMJ+Development/extension/5583/autolink
Cheers
Well, the AW Blog is NOT a full featured blog extension. It won’t support multilingual sites, meaning you can’t have http://www.mysite.com/en/article and http://www.mysite.com/es/article URLs. This means that if someone is viewing the http://www.mysite.com/en/article post and switches the language to Spanish, that user will get a 404 error. Poor design. Hope you can recommend something else for a blog. the EM Blog extension has the same issue. Please help!
Hey Richard, Thanks for sharing the modules…. Live chat & EasyLightbox are very useful…. Thanks once again… Keep it up.
Richard – Thank you for a great post!
I can add to this list StoreYa’s Magento Facebook Shop extension (http://www.StoreYa.com).
